Christmas Eve and Caroling
Christmas is officially over at the Rushing home! I just took the last box up to the storage room. I don't know if I feel more relief or melancholy. The boys are definitely feeling more melancholy. I overheard the boys talking when they discovered I had taken the tree down. Layton was in shock that the tree was gone. Will trying to console him explained to him that it was okay to be sad. He then went on to tell Layton that he knew that because mom had taught him a song about that. He said the song went like this...."I get mad when I take the tree down" ("I Cry the Day I Take the Tree Down" is a song that faintly resembles Will's version). So now that Christmas is over I guess I have no more excuses to not update our blog. Here is a quick review of what we did over the Christmas break.
We did our annual tradition of caroling at the rest home. And yes, we STILL cannot sing "Away In A Manager" for some reason. Regardless of the fact that we are not the best singers, the residents really seemed to appreciate our visit. I love to see the kids get excited to make them happy and give out plenty of Christmas cards and hugs. Will is still getting used to "old people". He didn't give out any hugs but he would stand relatively close to the patient before throwing his card at them.

Christmas Eve has brought a new tradition to our family since moving to Washington. We go over to Shane and Julie's for Deli sandwiches and the ever-so-popular candy bar game. The kids had a great time with their cousins and their cousin's cousins!

I love the tradition you have of taking the family to the nursing home. Your children are truly learning the message of service and love!
