Bachelorette Finalist - Hometown Visit

 He made it to the hometown visit!!!! Karsyn and Austin started officially dating the first part of November and a month and a half later he is coming to meet the family.  We didn't waste any time introducing Austin to the Pacific Northwest. We went straight from the airport to Cannon Beach on the coast. Someone was super excited to see him.











And you can bet, rain or shine, we were taking that boy golfing! Unfortunately for him it was rain, rain and more rain. Austin thought we were crazy but we had a good time. We made it very clear if he wanted to be part of this family he would need to golf. 
Karsyn and Austin enjoyed the wetlands behind the house even though parts of it were flooded. 
And no-one visits the NW without a trip to Multnomah Falls. Scott called ahead and told them to turn on the waterfall for them so everything was perfect. They went the extra mile too (literally) and hiked up the falls. 




Then she showed him so of the staples around town to visit.

They even got to see the Portland temple since they assisted me in photographing a sealing there. 



Karsyn and Austin also made it Seattle where they strolled through Pike's Market, visited the Gum Wall, visited a bakery, saw the Space Needle and sat on the Troll under the bridge.





Best of all, they got to stop in Tacoma and meet Layton and Maddie on their way home to Vancouver. 
It was so great to have Austin in our home and get to know him better. I guess time will tell if this home-town date ends in a proposal!

Heather sends us at least one vacation deal to look at each month. In September 2020 she showed us a sale on airfare to Hawaii over Scott's birthday. We had such a fun time there in January 2020 that it didn't take us long to commit and we booked airfare to Maui. We soon realized we couldn't find any affordable lodging in Maui that also offered free cancellation. Generous cancellation policies are definitely a must in these crazy COVID times. Heather found a good deal on lodging in Kauai so we changed our airfare from Maui to Kauai. Yes! Everything was finalized! Well that was until it was declared that all visitors to Hawaii would be required to show a negative COVID test, from one of their approved testing sites, to get off the plane in Hawaii. Blue and Gold

Our Blue and Gold Banquet theme this year was "Camping and Recycling".  I was in charge of the chocolate-dipped marshmallows for the centerpieces.  The gym looked great and everyone had a great time.  Of course, each cub scout brought in a theme-centered cake for the cake "contest" which supplied our dessert for the night.  Will decided to go with the camping theme and we made a giant Smore cake with the biggest home-made graham cracker known to man!  The boys spent some time at the recycling center at the back of the gym, making their unique creations from a bag of recycled items. Glad that is over!  Now just one more big cub scout pack meeting for the year....Pinewood Derby!!!!

Paris

So here is a look at our trip to Paris.  It might be more than most of you care to read!  I just copied and pasted emails we sent home while on our trip.  This is more for my benefit than anyone else's since this blog is the closest I have come to keeping a journal.  Hope you enjoy the journey- we sure did! View from our Seine River Cruise Day One We have the tiniest little room way up at the very top of a very narrow skinny hotel. It reminds us of the love dungeon (our first basement apartment) but it is up at the top so we called it our "love tower"! The bed is a double and you can only stand up straight in the room if you are standing on Scott's side of the bed! The tub is half size (I think they made it for Napoleon).  But I slept great. The weather was amazing! After getting in it was too early to get our room so we left our bags at the hotel and walked around for about an hour while waiting to meet up with the Parkers again.
