Putting the "20" in 2020!

We are down to one teenager! It is crazy to think that Layton is 20 years old and he is the first to agree with that.

Layton and Maddie drove home from their new apartment in Tacoma to spend his birthday evening with us here. They arrived just before Scott got home from work and we had a great time visiting, eating and opening gifts until they had to head back around 9:30. I made one of his favorite dinners, French Dip sandwiches (even though we had eaten them just two days ago over our Labor Day weekend with Shane and Julie - now that is love). Recently Layton has been on a dairy-free diet to see if that helps with some stomach discomfort, so my challenge was to find a dairy free birthday dessert for him. Not only did I accept that challenge, I conquered it! Figured out angel food cake is dairy free so made that with strawberries in a homemade glaze sauce and dairy free whipped cream.
Layton invited his friend Brandon Esperto to join us for dinner and presents. This was the first time Brandon and Maddie had met each other and Maddie was excited to finally meet Brandon after hearing many stories about him. Layton got a Safeway gift card (he and Maddie both transferred to the Safeway in Tacoma to work), some new jeans, new running shoes and a couple books he had requested.

It was so great to be able to celebrate with Layton in person! We miss having him here at home but grateful he isn't too far away and willing to make the drive to get together.
