Little Harley Foo Foo Went Hopping Through the Forest, Picking up the Bunnies and Boppin' em on the Head!

Karsyn went out in the backyard with Harley. Minutes later she came running back in the house yelling that Harley found a nest of baby animals and was killing them. We got Harley in the house I went out to see the damage. Looks like there was nest of babies under a bush in our backyard and Harley had drug one of them out and was pouncing on it. We weren't sure at first what kind of animals they were but they did seem to have pretty long ears so I googled baby rabbits and sure enough - we had a nest of baby rabbits in our yard! It looked like Harley's nail had punched the one she had brought out from nest. They were so young they didn't even have their eyes open!

We felt terrible for this little animal. Of course this was right at 5:00 pm so the first few calls I made to try and find some help for it ended up not being answered. I finally got a hold of a rescue in Portland that took bunnies but after they found out we lived in Washington she said they weren't allowed to accept animals from Washington. Somehow I found a squirrel rescue and though to call just to see if they knew someone that could help. The Humane society and animal control told us all they could do was euthanize it. The Squirrel Rescue said to bring it in and they would look at it. So we loaded this little bunny up in a box with a warm bag of rice and drove it to the rescue.

The rescue turned out to be a run-down home with a mini junk yard in their front yard. We starting to feel very protective of this bunny and not wanting to leave it with these people! But they seemed genuinely concerned for the bunny and said they knew of an organization that took in sick bunnies so we left our little baby there with them. We aren't sure what ended up happening with the bunny. We knew it's chances of survival were low but we kept telling ourselves it would be ok. Now anytime I see a bunny hopping around our yard or anywhere, I tell myself it is our bunny all healthy now!
