Boise Marathon

Several months back Cassidy and Sam set the goal to run in a half marathon held in Boise on May 30th. Scott decided he had been training enough too to join them and I was free that weekend to go and cheer them all on. Then COVID-19 hit. Like everything else, the Boise Marathon was cancelled.
(modeling the face masks I made them)

But we didn't let that stop us from getting together and having our own marathon weekend. Scott and I drove down to Boise for a couple days and enjoyed a golfing marathon with Cassidy and Sam! We took Scott's Tesla so there were two cars at home for Karsyn and Layton to share (Will was in Virginia with the Hughes). While it was nice that our trip didn't cost us any money driving his car, it did cost us quite a bit on time...and indigestion. To make the drive to Cassidy's we had to stop three times for over 90 minutes total. And since you want to make the most of your stops, that is a good time to go to the bathroom and grab something to eat. Washington was still in phase one fo COVID plan so restaurants were only open for pick-up or take-out. The more rural counties in Oregon had moved into phase 2 and you could eat inside restaurants. Our stop around dinner time happened to be at Wildhorse Casino. We plugged in his car to charge and made our way to the casino hoping it was open cause everyone knows casinos have great food for cheap, right? Well, that was not our experience! I get nauseous now just thinking about how gross our meal was. The ambiance didn't help much. They were open to serve food, but not the sit-down restaurant. So we got some nasty greasy pick-up food and then had no where to sit to eat besides at the slot machines next to ash trays and smokers. Never again. I will walk the extra distance to McDonald's if there is a next time, and that says a lot if you know how much I hate McDonalds!

Sam set up a tee time for both Friday and Saturday. We kept Friday morning open so Cassidy and I could go shopping (Yes! Stores are open in Idaho!) to get some frames for a couple wedding pictures for their bedroom. It felt so good to walk through a couple of stores! Most places required masks and that was hot and uncomfortable but it was nice to do something normal. I bought Will some underwear just so it could officially be a shopping trip for me too!

The first day was a beautiful course (Quail Hollow) but full of trouble and hot, hot, hot! But we loved the course and had a great time together.

Learning how to use a range finder from the pro.
Day two we tried out Eagle Hill Golf Course which was a little easier and much flatter course. It was still a record-high weekend but not quite as hot because we got started early that morning. Cassidy only played the front 9 today because she is still having a lot of wrist pain but she still had a lot of fun.

Later that night we went over to Sam's parents house for dinner. Deseret and Harry are so nice and welcoming. They sure love Cassidy and are always so complimentary of her. All Sam's siblings and families were there as well so it was a really nice night getting to get to know each other better. The Lazarte's neighborhood has a beautiful pond that runs right behind their home where they like to fish and catch and release. Scott and I gave it a try, with only one of us catching anything. I think Scott missed his calling in life and should give up golf for fishing!

We love having Cassidy and Sam close enough to drive there for the weekend! We enjoyed a great couple of days together and can't wait to see them again in July for our family trip.
