51 Years Old

Not sure if I was dreading turning a year older, or the fact that Scott isn't sleeping well due to stresses at work and church, but all I was leading up to my birthday way TIRED! My birthday fell on a Tuesday, which is my one of the days I always teach early morning seminary and I didn't sleep hardly at all the night before so waking up that morning was hard. It was cute though cause a couple of days earlier, a few of the students mentioned my birthday was coming up and we decided we needed to have fun that day. We had a really fun lesson titled "Slurpess and Star Wars" and the kids really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. We talked about how the church, scripture study, seminary and prayer are all like "Bring your own cup day" at 7-Eleven. No matter what size cup you bring, you can fill it up for $1.50. We talked about how many of us are bringing thimbles to church or seminary with us instead of bathtubs and buckets. The lesson was to let them know that they are already doing the hard part of waking up early and coming to seminary. Why not go one step further and get something out of it - take advantage of this time to really discover your own testimony. Then through a clip of Star Wars where Obi Wan teaches Luke to use the force, it shows how Luke has to put down his blaster shield to cover his eyes before he can feel the force. It is the same for us. We have to tune out what our physical eyes are seeing in the world so that we can see things with an eternal perspective to really get in touch with the Spirit. My birthday gift to them then was a prepaid slurp they could fill at another time. Even though I started off my birthday super tired from having to get up for seminary, I always leave feeling pumped.

My only plans for the day were to try and rest up after seminary, get a massage Scott set up for me and then go out to dinner with Scott and the boys. Well, two out of three isn't bad! I did get my massage (and it was wonderful) and we did go out to dinner to Outback Steakhouse but I never got my nap. But that's okay because what was suppose to be my nap time was spent talking to Sister Rushing, getting her blog post done and emailed out and taking birthday calls all day from my other kids!

Scott and I started this diet plan called Optavia on New Year's Eve and this was going to be our first time eating out on it. We found a link to a site that showed several meals from different restaurants that fit into our dinner meal plan and Outback looked the best to me so that is where we went for my birthday dinner. It was fun that Layton had most of January off for winter break and could be here to join us for my birthday.

At the restaurant Will kept us laughing because he wanted filet mignon for dinner and he warned us he was going to order it like he had no idea of how to correctly pronounce it. So when the waiter came, Will ordered his "Fillette Mig Non". The waiter didn't even skip a beat at that. He acted like everyone pronounced it that way!

And then his card and gift to me had me laughing!!!
Will got me these customized socks with CJ McCollum's face and money (cause he is $$$$) on them. CJ is easily my favorite Portland Trailblazer. I tell everyone he is my son and Scott laughs at me cause sometimes I use "CJ3mamasaywhat?" for my password.

Besides the socks, I got spoiled with sweet words from the boys and Scott, and a necklace, a new clothes steamer and steamer mittens. After dinner Scott and I sat out in the hot tub for awhile and it was the perfect ending to my quiet and relaxing birthday!
