You heard that right! This is our last year of Pinewood Derby. Three years with Layton and this makes our third year with Will. And I was there for all 6 of them as the Webelos Leader! I doubt I will still a be leader come next year's pinewood derby so there you have it...the Derby has reached it's finish line! Will and Scott went over to our neighbors, the Bairs, to make his car. Will designed it and wanted it to look real thin down the middle like a rocket. And while this looked great - it did cause us some frustration. I was in the middle of taking Layton from his school basketball game to his school choir concert when I got a call from Scott asking me where we keep the super glue! Never the question you want to hear just 15 minutes before the derby starts! While Scott was trying to align the wheels better, one of the front axles broke off completely! Needless to say, it wasn't a winning year for the Rushings again.
The funniest part is that after the races where over and the boys were just playing around, another boy dropped Will's car by accident. It bent the back wheel a little bit. But when he raced just for fun against some of the top cars that night, he won!!!!
They introduced the boys one by one with a loud speaker and a spot light! The first two boys came out on the stage all quiet and embarrassed. Then I mentioned to those sitting by me, I bet Will hams it up. Next thing you know, they called Will's name and this was his entrance. His Gangnam style dance was faster than his car! He was a good sport about the whole night even though his heart was set on winning it all to keep up the Rushing winning streak. He knows that no matter what, he is a winner!
