Learning the Hard Way

Pet peeve #3 on Scott's list is when the boys leave their basketballs all over the driveway and front yard.  It never really bothered me, until this year!

I was backing out of the garage in the Honda Civic with the boys when it became obvious that we had run over something.  I asked Layton to get out of the car and see what we hit.  He looked and said there was nothing back there.  So I pulled forward to see what must be under the car.  That was when the back bumper ripped off!  I had run over a basketball - yep, left out by the boys.

The bumper repair cost $500 and since the boys didn't have that kind of cash laying around, Scott "let" them work it off in the yard.  He paid them $5/hour to rake the leaves.  That meant that each boy needed to spend 25 hours out in the yard raking leaves.

They did not enjoy their time out in the yard and often had a hard time working together, but they both admitted that nothing felt better than the moment when they had completed their 25 hours.
