Twas the day after Christmas

The day after Christmas we were itching to get out of the house.  So we took the two hour drive down to McMinnville, OR to the Evergreen Aviation Museum and Wings and Waves Waterpark.  The Dustin's were not sick of us yet so they came along as well.  This is where the girls went for youth conference a few months ago.  The ward rented out the museum and the kids slept under the largest airplane in the world, the "spruce goose".  The theme of the conference was taken from Elder Uchtdorf's April 2008 conference talk "A Matter of a Few Degrees" where he spoke of how getting off course, by only a few small degrees, can be not only dangerous, but deadly.

The Spruce Goose is the largest airplane ever built and was only flown once.  It was made completely out of wood due to the wartime restrictions on metals.  It is 6 times the size of any aircraft of its time (1942) and was built to not only land, but take off from land or water.

Will found the one little amusement ride they have at the museum.  He was a few inches taller than the maximum height requirements but since it was a slow day they let him on.  He made faces at us every time the ride spun him passed us!

In fact, Will made faces at us every time I picked up my camera!

We saw a really cool imax movie at the museum about jet fighters.

After the museum we headed to the other building that housed the water park.  We decided not to keep any purses or valuables in the park so we snapped a quick photo before Scott took all our bags back to the car.  It was freezing that day and we couldn't keep the camera from fogging up inside the 90 degree water park.  So the photo looks a little "dream-like".  To reach the slides, you climb up several flights of stairs until you reach the top of the building.  Then you enter inside the actual airplane that sits on top of the building.  All of the slides shoot out from the doors of the airplane.  We stayed until everyone was water-logged them headed out for a yummy barbecue dinner on the way home.
