Life at Eleven

My kids finally wised up to the fact that sugar cereals were included in their list of foods to choose for breakfast.  This is a pretty special treat since the only other times they see these types of cereal are when we are visiting family.  When I asked Layton what he wanted for his birthday breakfast, he said he wanted cinnamon rolls, and that kind of cereal he got to eat at Aunt Heather's house.  After playing a round of 20 questions, I finally figured out the cereal he wanted was Capt Crunch.  It was so cute that he doesn't even know the names of most of these wonderful cereals!

For dinner, Layton chose to take the family to Applebees.  We were pressed for time since it was a school night and Scott was in surgery until pretty late, so we took his presents with us to Applebees.

It was so fun watching Layton get so excited over gifts that other kids would view as a punishment!
He got the rest of the City of Ember series, an NBA encyclopedia, the series Leven Lumps, a watch, a physics book and a scientific calculator.  But just to prove he is a cool nerd, Layton asked for a hip hop hat!  Of course, we all had to give it a try with a baddest hip hop face!

With the gorgeous weather forecast for that week, we changed Layton's party request from a CSI party to an outdoors sports party.  We played baseball in the street, basketball, and capture the flag.  That was one smelly house afterwards with all those sweaty boys!

True to form, Karsyn wanted to make Layton his birthday cake.  He was so proud of it.  He bragged to everyone about how his sister made his cake, that it had a ganache filling, and she was just like a pro.

In honor of his 11th birthday, here are 11 things that make Layton unique:

1.  Layton doesn't need much sleep.  I have to make him turn out his lights and stop reading about 11:30 every night.  Then I never have to wake him up for school in the morning either.
2.  Layton is addicted to khanacademy.com
3.  Layton reads college physics books for fun
4.  Layton is currently working on discovering how to make time travel possible
5.  Layton probably shoots at least 200 baskets a day, regardless of the weather
6.  Layton is always blamed for making family scripture study go way too long due to all the questions he asks.
7.  Layton has recently become very interested in photography (which makes his mommy very happy!)
8.  Layton is best friends with his brother Will
9.  Layton is as picky about his hair and clothes as any of my girls were.
10.  Layton loves playing the piano
11.  Layton has recently become quite the football fan (which makes his daddy very happy!)
