Fun at Scott's expense
Keys. Who knew they would be the number one reason for stress in Scott's life? They seem to lose themselves almost daily for Scott. First place I always look for them? In his car.
So, it was no surprise when I got the call from him from scout camp.
"Honey, before you can say I told you so, and that yes, you are always right, and yes, it is dumb for me to always leave my keys inside the car, I need your help. I locked my keys inside the suburban... up here at scout camp...scout camp that is almost 2 hours away...each way."
Silence
More Silence
Thoughts from all those parenting classes about not rescuing your children and letting them work through their own bad choices comes to mind and I wonder if the same principle applies to husbands. I mean, are they really any different from our kids?
I decided I would rescue him yet one more time - for the children. Oh, the things we do for the children.
I couldn't very well leave dozens of scouts stranded now could I?
The closest locksmith would have taken almost the same time getting to them and cost $120.
I thought to myself, "looks like I've now got an extra $120 to spend today!"
So I loaded up the three kids I had at home and headed for Mt. Hood!
After 'rescuing' my husband, I took the kids to Mt. Hood's Ski Bowl and spent my $120.
We bought an unlimited half day pass and headed for the top of the mountain for the Alpine slides.
Then we headed to the bungee trampolines. Even I gave these a try. I didn't last quite as long as the kids but I know they were impressed!
And just in case they weren't impressed enough, I took them to the batting cages. It's a good thing Scott wasn't there. He has some insecurities when it comes to my softball career. It makes him feel better about all my All-Star years to minimize them by saying I was a mere toddler than a seasoned woman of 13 when they happened. Let's just say, I still got it!
We finished up the day with a couple rounds of miniature golf then stopped off for a nice dinner on our long trip back home.
So, it still cost Scott $120 to get his keys out of the car, but spending it was so much sweeter than giving it away!

A few weeks ago I was at work (in the ER) and had to call his answering service. Anyway they connect me to him and its maybe 11 at night. I hear this moaning "hello" although it sounded like "meh...." I transferred the call to the MD who needed him. He hung up a minute later and said "Who was THAT guy? There is no way he will remember that phone call. He said something I couldn't understand and hung up."
Maybe you should lecture him on his phone skills too...;)
