Light Reading
This is the scene I find every night in the boy's room. I usually go to bed around midnight after making the rounds to check on the kids. Every night I have to turn off the boy's light because they have fallen asleep reading. I never complain about having to turn off their lights because I love that love to read. Some friends at church thought it was so funny when they overheard me threatening to punish the boys for not being reverent. I told them that if they didn't behave I would take away their books for a whole week. The said that sounded like what they say to their kids when they want to reward them!
Layton reads every bit as much as Will, but it is the content of what he reads that is so amazing. For months now, this college physics text book has been Layton's reading of choice for bedtime. This is the common sight of how I find him every night. On road trips you will hear an occasional "oh man, that was an awesome chapter" from Layton. Not such an usual comment, except for the fact that he is reading a college science book.
I love to see what books Layton brings home from the school on library days. I wish it had occurred to me earlier to take photos of all his books from the year, but here is a small sampling of his lighter reading choices. Layton will be joining the accelerated program in school next year. He is very excited to be challenged and learn at an accelerated pace. Will is right on his tail. He only missed entering the program by 2 percentage points. They are definite proof that reading makes the mind sharp!
