Sleeping in Seattle

We decided to make some memories over Memorial Day weekend.  We talked about maybe going camping but it just wasn't warm enough yet for that.  So we made some last minute plans for an overnight trip to Seattle.  We got up there Friday night and checked into our hotel.  We quickly discovered that our two-bedroom, four bed reservation was only a 3 bed reservation.  All they could do was offer us a twin-size roll-away (at an extra cost, of course) for one of the rooms.  That would work out just fine, as long as we could separate the boys - one with the girls, and one with us in the roll-away bed.  They were going to hear nothing of that idea!  They immediately linked arms around each other and Will said, "No way.  We are a package deal!"  So here is a picture of the 'package deal' all cuddled up together on their single bed.

We hit Pike's Market first thing Saturday morning.  Started the day off with some fabulous crepes, then took in all the sights (fresh flowers) and smells (fish market) before doing some shopping.

This is where we had a parting of the ways.  The boys took off to look at trading cards while the girls and I did a little girl shopping.  We later found the boys sitting outside listening to an acoustic band called Boomer Morrison.  We enjoyed them so much that we ended up buying two of their Cd's.  Seattle is full of musicians performing along the streets of Pike's Market.  We really had a good time stopping to listened to each one and their unique style of music.  Our favorite was due to his entertainment value, not his musical talent.  He would play the harmonica, up to two guitars with one balancing upside down on his chin. all while hula-hooping.  He was a nut.  Will watched him in amazement and then looked up at us and said, "Someday that will be me up there".

One of our very favorite spots in Seattle we came upon by accident.  I had read about the Gum Wall but had never seen it before.  We were just trying to find our way out of the market when we turned a corner and behold....the wonder of gum was before us!  And entire ally way was covered with chewed-up gum.  All colors and flavors imaginable.  Some people sculpt it into shapes, some write words with it, while most just add another glob of gum to millions of globs already there.  I wish I had come prepared with some glow-in-the-dark gum, but all I had was white, spearmint gum.  We made the best of it and tried to leave our signatures on the wall.

The girls hadn't had enough shopping, so while we decided to hit some more stores, Scott took the boys up to the top of the Space Needle.  It was a beautiful day with clear skies.  They got some great views of Seattle and the Puget Sound.

Then we were off to see a Mariners game Saturday night.  And not just any Mariners game, they were playing the Yankees (those darn Yankees).  The Mariners had won the night before and we were hoping for another victory.  We were not disappointed either.  It was a tight game and went into extra innings.  We were planning on driving all the way home that night and had very early morning church meetings the next day so we left after the 10th inning.  We ran to our car so we could finish listening to the game on the radio.  Mariners pulled out a win in the 12th inning.  As exciting as the game was, most of the excitement took place in between innings and by the fans.  During the game we had 3 people run out onto the field.  The last one was completely nude, except for his hat!  Poor security got a work out that night chasing men around the field and throwing them down to the ground and trying to keep them covered with a towel!  Let's just say, at that moment Scott was not so glad he had splurged to get us such great seats right behind home plate!  I think his girls saw way more that he was hoping they would at that game.  It was a great weekend and we definitely made some wonderful memories - can't think of a more appropriate thing to do over memorial day weekend.
