Queen for a Day
Kennedy went to her Senior Homecoming dance in style. Not only did she find a replacement for her mail- order dress that turned out to be a shirt, but she went wearing a Homecoming Court sash. She was one of three senior girls chosen to be Homecoming Queen. Kennedy's best friend, Chandler Roberson, and good friend, Elizabeth Reeves were the other two girls elected to be on Court. She went to the dance with her friend, Skyler Frasier, and had a great time once she (meaning me) got on his boutonniere. The Homecoming Royalty was announced during half-time at the football game the night before the dance. Kennedy was a busy girl that night. Her Dance Team was performing at half-time as well. The girls were dancing with partners that night. Cassidy danced with Will and Kennedy danced with Jacob Troupe. The team was scheduled to dance first and then immediately afterwards, the convertible corvettes were to drive out with all the princesses and the 3 Queen nominees. Kennedy had no time to change into her formal between the dance and Court so she danced with her floor-length dress under her sweatshirt and tucked into her jeans! The best part of the whole night was watching Kennedy strip out of her sweatshirt and jeans as she ran off the football field and into her convertible!
Kennedy was not the only one that was busy that night. It turned out that Scott had done some double-booking for this weekend. He scheduled his golf trip to Bandon without realizing it was also Homecoming weekend. Bandon is about a 5 hour drive from here. But nothing was going to keep Scott from being here for this occassion and for Kennedy. Scott and the guys made it to Bandon on Thursday night and were scheduled to play all day Friday and Saturday. Well, Scott was going to end up doing a lot of driving Thursday but on asphalt, not grass! He had planned to play one round of golf in the morning and then drive 5 hours home to be Kennedy's escort at the game. Then as soon as the half-time presentation was done, he was headed for a 5 hour drive back to Bandon. I was worried about him driving 10 hours that day, after playing golf and so late into the night. The only way I agreed to this plan was to stay up talking with him on the phone until I knew had arrived safely.
After it was all said and done, Scott was so glad he went the extra mile to be there and I think Kennedy really appreciated it as well. Both Scott and I were there to escort her after she was driven out onto the field. Each queen and king were given a box containing a balloon. Each couple opened their box at the same time and the couple that had balloon filled with helium were the winners. Kennedy's friend Elizabeth won! Kennedy was thrilled for her and felt it such an honor just to be nominated.

Since I was down on the field with Kennedy I couldn't get any photos. A friend did get this one for me but she was so far away it came out a little blurry. But hey, it is proof of a father's love!
