H2C

The goods news is...Scott got to run Hood to Coast again this year with the same team. The even better news is...they changed their name from "Sore Foot Clinic" to "Chubar" (Chafed up beyond all recognition). Well, not so sure the name is an improvement, but at least it was changed! I was quick to volunteer to work at any of the exchange points along the route this year so I wouldn't have to drive the van again this year! As fun as that was, I think once was enough for me. Unfortunately, volunteering at the exchange point didn't prove to be any easier for me. I spent 4 hours standing in the middle of the road directing traffic. But the end of the day, my back was hurting very bad. Even after the event, it just kept getting worse. It was the same pain I had after driving to Utah by myself the summer before. So, worried I would still feel like this when it was time to go to Italy in a few weeks I went in for an x-ray. Turns out I have an extra veterbrae in my spine that has fused to two different areas of my back. So this is something I will have to learn to deal with and learn how to not aggrevate it. So all my Hood to Coast volunteering may be over! Scott, on the other hand, was in great shape! He had trained well and felt great through the entire run.

Scott's team in Van #1

I did hear a few complaints from Scott's teammates about how antisocial he was this trip! When there was some down time, Scott would go read by himself. He even went to OMSI by himself while waiting for an exchange in downtown Portland. I think he just missed me!

The entire CHubar team met up at the traditional Camp 18 restaurant for dinner before heading home. This is me with the two other team volunteers. We had a great time. We had hoped to finish our shift in time to see them come in at the finish line but dangit, they were just too fast this year! Congratulations Chubar!
