Keep Portland Weird

Scott and Kennedy participated in their first annual Starlight Parade 5K run. This is in association with the Rose Festival downtown Portland and the "Keep Portland Weird" campaign I believe! Most people dress up to run this race so even if you don't run it is fun to go people-watch. Kennedy was a ballerina, of course, and Scott was the race car driver Ricky Bobby from the movie "Taledega Nights". Everyone LOVED his costume. Everywhere he went people yelled out to him, "Hey, Ricky Bobby!" and he would yell "Shake and Bake Baby, Shake and Bake!". On the way down to Portland he had to slam on his brakes as he passed a cop. I was actually hoping he would get pulled over and get a ticket. I mean, how great would that be to get a picture of Ricky Bobby getting a ticket? Then he could tell the Police Officer "If you're not first, you're last"! But we saw German men synchronized-swimmers, Ronald McDonald, Little Caesar, a man in an outhouse, Mario Brothers and anything else you could think of along with many, many cross -dressers.

Scott and Kennedy ran the whole race together. The race starts and ends at a local high school track but runs through the streets of downtown Portland. They had a blast. Kennedy wasn't too excited about doing it but afterwards even admitted it was a lot of fun and is planning on doing it again next year. We have to do it next year so Scott can do his big finish. He was a little shy this year being his first time and all. But the plan was for him to cross the finish line, strip off his racing suit and run around yelling, "I'm on fire, I'm on fire! Help me Oprah! Help me Tom Cruise!". Maybe next year.

I hope your kids realize what a 'cool' dad they have. He is always ready for fun and makes life fun for others!

Why does it look like only Kennedy and Scott are wearing costumes at the finish line? I think your family is single-handedly keeping Portland weird.

Did you get your blog book yet? What do you think? Bring it to SLC with you.
