D.C. (Don't Cry!)

After years and years of being on our own, we finally had family nearby when we moved to the Northwest. Scott's brother, Shane, and his wonderful wife and 3 kids have lived 1 mile from us for the last 6 years. So many perks that people surrounded by family take for granted. Well, all those perks will be put on hold for two years for us now. Their family has taken a great opportunity to move from Washington State to Washington D.C. for a two-year internship within Shane's same company. And just to make the separation felt even more...we got to have them live with us for a week before leaving! They were lucky enough to sell their home quickly but needed to close a few weeks before leaving to D.C. So we got the whole family to stay with us for a week and Shane will be with us for three additional weeks. I thought I had Ty, their 4 year old, convinced to stay with me but Julie took advantage of his early morning stupor and threw him in the car and left for Idaho before he could fully wake up and ask to stay with me!

They will be missed. My kids really enjoyed having cousins nearby. Will is desperate to find someone to take their place. Will brought home a birthday invitation in his school folder from a boy named Alex. Will had no idea who Alex was. There was no Alex in his class. No Alex at church. We had no idea who Alex was! Well, a few days ago Will said, "Mom, we really need to find someone to replace Andrew and Alli." I asked him who he had in mind. In all seriousness Will responds with, "How about Alex?"

Well, I found out Alex is a boy from a different kindergarten class. I hope he knows what is riding on this birthday party. Replacing twin cousins is no easy job!

Laughing so hard at Will's replacement choice. The boy is desperate! What a big change to not have any cousins nearby though. Hopefully they'll be back in a few years.
