17 and abandoned

Kennedy is 17. Kennedy is 17? Holy cow...Kennedy is 17!!!

When did all this happen? Last thing I remember, she was 3 years old, running around with her cute little bob and singing from "Sound of Music". Now she is 17 years old, running around with her cute little bob in a car and singing to her country tunes!

So for Kennedy's birthday this year I decided to give myself a girl's weekend in Utah. What's so wrong with that? I did play a major part in her day of birth. Why should it be all about her year after year? I was a little afraid to approach her with this idea at first. Back in 2005, Scott and I were on a cruise over her birthday and she has never let us forget it. She reminds over and over again how she had to make and decorate her own birthday cake because we abandoned her on her birthday. But like all good mothers, I bribed her. I told her I would buy her a ticket to go see Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw in concert her birthday weekend if I could go on my girl's weekend. She was sooo okay with that. Almost too okay with it. I was kind of hoping she would argue a little bit that having me around was much more important than seeing Tim...but that didn't happen.

I didn't fly out until after she left for school that day. I was there to give her her favorite birthday breakfast of Krispie Kreme doughnuts and grandma's peaches. Then after she left for school, I decorated the house with banners and balloons before heading to the airport.

That night, after a very full day of school and dance, she opened her gifts and celebrated with a Cold Stone icecream cake.
Karsyn gave her new socks so she would leave mine alone.
Bailey gave her a box of Somoa Girl Scout cookies and then two days later snuck into her room, climbed up on her desk and ate the whole box! You can hardly blame her since no one fed her for the three days I was gone!
Cassidy gave her some running clothes.
Layton gave her some finger nail polish.
Scott gave her the latest albums from "Love and Theft", "Lady Antebellum", and "Tim McGraw"-all the groups they would be seeing at the concert that weekend.
I gave her the same perfume she got me for Mother's Day so she would leave mine alone. I am seeing a trend here.
Will gave her dry shampoo for all those mornings she wants to combat the greasies in a timely manner.
Scott and the girls before heading out to the big concert. I guess I need to get Kennedy AND Cassidy some more shirts too so they leave mine alone!

That's just the price you have to pay when your mom has great style. When I moved to VA I talked my mom into giving me the cute shoes that I always took from her closet. haha. It doesn't end...haha. Take it as a compliment! haha. You have such a beautiful family!

I seriously cannot believe Kennedy is 17 years old. It really does seem just like yesterday I was playing with her at my apartment 14 years ago. It goes by so quickly! And it's so fun to see what an amazing grown up she is becoming. Beautiful, talented, intelligent, righteous. Everything a parent could hope for. We love you Kennedy!

Now you know how I feel!! I mean how could I have 'kids' that are 40!?
I agree with Heather's comments...Kennedy is all a parent could hope and pray for...why else do we call her "Our Sabbath Patrol"?
