Speaking of the Old!

So I am officially over 40. I think from this point on you don't even have to remember or recognize which birthday it is anymore. That is a relief, since I can barely remember what I did yesterday! But I will always remember my birthday celebration! My friend, Heidi (yeah, all the good ones get that name!), invited Scott and myself to a mystery night for our birthdays. She said she would plan the whole night and all we had to do was show up. I was all for that, but Scott on the other hand, felt he needed to get a little bit more involved. So together, he and Heidi planned a marvelous night for me (well, for all of us really).

It started out with a couples massage in downtown Portland.
This is us AFTER our massages. Don't we look relaxed?

Then we went to dinner at the BEAST. Talk about a dining experience. This was not just about eating but about experiencing the food! This restaurant serves a 6 course meal that is changed weekly. The chef offers two different seating times and serves the same menu to the entire seating. If you don't like what is on their menu for that week, then don't come! The food was amazing and was things we couldn't pronounce, read or never would had ordered on our own. I brought home my menu so I could show you what we got to experience.
Cream of Savoy Cabbage Soup
Seared Sonoma Artisan Foie Gras

Charcuterie Plate:
Foie Gras Bon-Bon, Sauternes Gelee, Steak Tartare and Quail Egg Toast,
Chicken Liver Mousse, Pickled Shallot Pork, Prune, and Green Peppercorn Pate

Citrus Braised Sonoma Farms Duck
Tomato Kumquat Confiture
Crispy Kale and Creme Fraiche Smashed Potatoes

Friess Aux Lardon
Poached Egg, Pickled Hedgehog Mushrooms
Aged Balsamic and Parmesan

Selection of Steve's Cheese:
Cracked Black Pepper and Fluer De Sel Shortbreak
Acacia Honey
Champagne Poached Apricots and Candied Hazelnuts

Chocolate and Cassis Pots Du Creme
Soft Whipped Cream
Vanilla Lace Cookies

And then no lie, before we left, they served us chocolate covered bacon! So worth getting a year older for!

How can you be 2 1/2 years older than I am and have less wrinkles? You just seem to get all the breaks! :) Looks like a fun bday celebration and reading that menu reminded me for a minute of our dining experience in La Jolla. Unfortunately we just didn't get to taste the food, only the water. Happy birthday to both of you!

What a party! Certainly worth getting one year older for an evening like you had.
