Skyview Dance Competition

Kennedy and Cassidy had a big pay day at their dance competition at Skyview. This was the debut of their prop and show category number "Wicked". The dance isn't completed yet and neither are the props but the girls assure me this is the way it is done! You never want to show the other teams the final product until your bring it out in full force at the State competition. Kennedy felt like this competition was a total disaster when it all began. She was in tears after falling out of one turn (yeah, she is a little bit of a perfectionist) in the kick routine. Then, she realized part of her hiphop costume was missing, meaning the rest of the team had to all go without that part of the costume as well! But everything started to look up for her when the drill down competition began. They had three different levels of competition: Middle School, Novice, and Advanced. Cassidy competed in the Novice category where all first year high school dance team members are required to compete. The caller got about 90% of the girls out in the first few seconds with a "fake" or a hesitation in her call. Then Kennedy had to compete in the Advanced group. She always gets so mad at me for video-taping every drill down competition. But I have always told her, one day she will win it all and she will be so glad I have it on tape! Well, today was her lucky day! Unfortunately, I only had my camera instead of my video camera to record with. Therefore, it came out a little blurry but there is no mistaking it is Kennedy when she yells out her name as the winner! To make it even better, the top three finishers were all from her high school! After the winner is determined, it is custom to have them salute each side of the stadium. The last calls given to Kennedy were "by the numbers" meaning the lady had to count "1 - 2" before Kennedy could carry out any of her calls. The caller kept forgetting to call the numbers when having Kennedy salute! Kennedy was going to play by the rules until the very end and stood still with every last call until the numbers were called as well!

The team came home with a trophy for every category they competed in:

Hip Hop - 2nd Place
Kick - 1st Place
Show - 1st Place
Best All Around Effect

Totally cried while watching Kennedy do the drill down. Not even sure why. I guess I'm just an emotional aunt! Great pics. You need to teach me how to use the camera in low light and get such great pics and I'll teach you how to get great in-focus video on it. :)

Well, quite a week for all of you...first Karsyn competing and getting first all around and then Kennedy and Cassidy placing so high. That is awesome how Kennedy did on the drill down. I have watched that before and have seen how hard it is. Such control and discipline! Grandpa says to ask her to check out ROTC scholarships at the Y :)
