Turning Nine and Feeling Fine!

Happy Birthday to Layton!  We had a great day celebrating Layton's 9th birthday.  As usual, the day started off with a lot of sugar and then the sugar just kept on coming!  The kids get to pick what ever they want for breakfast and dinner when it is their birthday.  Cinnamon rolls have been the breakfast of choice for them all lately.  Layton also chose to have steak and corn on the cob for his dinner.  Then we took a quiz to see who knew Layton the best.  I would have won of course, if I was allowed to play, but I helped Layton put his quiz together and already knew all the answers.  Karsyn ended up getting the most answers correct on the quiz.  It was so fun watching Layton during this game.  He was LOVING all the attention and focus on him.  He was just giddy with delight!  Afterwards, he opened his presents.  He got some DS video games from his grandma's AND extra money to spend!  He got some crafts (of course), a nerf gun for all the Nerf Nights at karate, and some things to help him on his path to music stardom!  As you know, Layton goes through phases where he really "gets into" something.  Right now, it is his music.  His latest journal entry was titled, "The Music is in Me".  He has started his own band called "The Heartbreakers".  Sometimes Will is in it, and sometimes Will has "quitted" the band.  Just depends on the boys relationship at the time!  Layton has given many concerts at home already.  He writes his own music and lyrics and then hangs the lyrics all over the room to read while he performs for us.  Until now, he has borrowed Cassidy's little hot pink guitar to use during these performances.  The best part is, that he just holds the guitar, never touches it, never strums it.  He has been trying so hard to teach himself how to play by watching YouTube videos, but only ends up frustrated.  So for his birthday, we found him a "boy" guitar to borrow and got him a beginners guitar book.  He was thrilled!  Now we just need to find him a teacher!
