Keep on Trekkin'

My girls are never going to forgive me for posting these photos but it is after all MY blog!  Like I mentioned, the girls started their pioneer trek experience immediately after arriving back home from Disneyland.  In preparation for the trek, the girls had to make their own skirts, bonnets, and aprons.  There was no love for their new wardrobe that was for sure!  Then to make things worse, they were not allowed to pack make-up and had to wear long-sleeve button-up shirts and hiking boots.  The whole concept of the trek is to give them a chance to feel a little of what it must had been like for those pioneers that were driven across the country by mobs in less than favorable conditions with little or no supplies and necessities.  Yet, at the same time, have it be a fun and spiritual experience for them.  Once the girls got over their vanities of hair, make-up and clothing they had a good experience.  They were both glad they did it even though Kennedy said she would never do it again!  It was definitely fun but also very hard.  They hiked about 25 miles in 2 1/2 days in extreme heat, pulling loaded down handcarts through sand, mud and water.

Cassidy and Kennedy leaving for Trek.

Since Scott is the Bishop of our Ward, he got to go up as well and roam around between all the handcart compamies checking up on all the youth from our ward. At one point he was giving Kennedy a hard time about complaining about pulling the handcart.  She told him it wasn't as easy as it looked and offered him a try at the cart.  She said within five minutes he was worn out and his shirt was soaking wet!  She didn't hear anymore out of him the rest of the trek!
