Close Call
Yesterday Scott was hit by a car. He called me about 12:30 in the afternoon and told me he had just been hit by a car. I kept thinking he was telling me that he was in a car accident and someone ran into his car. He finally said, "No, a car hit me and I wasn't in a car". Then it registered that he was directly hit by a car. It happened at the SW hospital parking lot. He had just come out of a very stressful surgery and was walking to his car. He said it was partly his fault because he was running late for a patient in the office and he was looking down and checking his phone while he was walking. The lady that hit him was about 70 years old and couldn't see him because the sun was casting a big glare on her windshield. At the very last second Scott saw her out of the side of his eye and jumped up. This threw him up on top of the hood of the car rather than being struck directly. Well, the lady heard the sound of him landing on her hood and she immediately slammed on her brakes which threw Scott forward off the hood into the parking lot. He said a nurse witnessed it all. She said she looked out and there was a man flying through the air and then the man stood up and she said to herself, "Why that is Dr. Rushing!" The old lady felt so bad! Can you imagine running over a doctor in a hospital parking lot? I think Scott was in shock right after it happened. All he could think about was getting home to change into some clean clothes because he was late for his afternoon patients. He went to work for the rest of the day but as the shock wore off he began to feel very sore. He went into the ER after work to have everything checked out and make sure nothing was broken. All the x-rays looked fine but he will definitely be sore for a few days. Needless to say, we didn't take it so for granted when he came home from work as usual the next day. It is sad it takes experiences like these to wake you up and remind you of what really is important but makes you wonder why it is so easy to get caught up in things that don't really matter.

Wow! I'm so sorry to read about Scott's run in with a car! Thank goodness he will be ok, minus the painful healing, of course! I can sure identify with you. Two years ago last August, right before I had Averie, Robert was hit from behind while he was biking and flew through the air, and bounced up on the windshield of the car, cracking the window with his head!
I was so upset when his buddy he rode with called me to tell me what happened and to come pick up his bike. The ambulance had already rushed him off. He definitely was being watched over, to see how he could have been immediately killed! We'll keep you in our prayers and pray for his speedy recovery!!
