Father's Day Tribute

I know it is a day late, but I was just one big stress ball on Father's Day with having to speak in church and trying to make the day nice for Scott. But I didn't want to miss the opportunity to give Kudos to the dads in my life. In my talk at church I mentioned certain things that I have learned from all the fathers in my life; my father, the father of my children and my Heavenly Father. Here are a few of the things I learned from my dad:My Father:

-He taught me how to turn off lights when leaving a room

(this might sound silly, but as a parent, I would give anything to have my children learn these things!). His first attempt at this was using the clapper. I remember sitting in my bedroom at night studying or reading and clapping my hands every three minutes to keep the lights on and hearing my sister doing the same thing in the room next to mine. Then when he realized that he conserved energy but didn’t teach us anything, he came up with a new plan. He decided that each month that our electric bill went down, he would give the difference of that bill to each child. So if our bill was $12 less than the month before, he would give all six children $12. Now, of course, this plan ended up costing my dad more money but that is the great lesson that I really learned from this story. It wasn’t really about saving money at that moment, it was about teaching us responsibility and preparing us for life.

He taught me how to be frugal and avoid debt
He taught me the importance of exercise and good health
He has taught me to appreciate others cultures
He has taught me humility
He has taught me that we are all God’s children-he is the least prejudice person I know.
He has taught me that disagreeing with someone doesn’t have to be disagreeable or contentious. He can argue with someone and never raise his voice or get upset, which usually only infuriates the other person more!
He taught me the importance of an education
He taught me and encouraged me to develop my talents
They say the greatest thing you can do for your children is love their mother. He was always very public about how he adores my mom and that taught me how a man should treat a women and how I wanted to be treated in my marriage

Thanks for all you've done for me and taught me dad, I love you!

And of course, there is that incredibly handsome, funny,  smart, and most all-around amazing father of my children, Scott.  What can I say besides I love you, I love you, I love you!  I am so glad that my children have you to teach them their life lessons and show my boys the way to grow up to be wonderful dads and fathers some day.  Thanks for all you do for us, the time you give to us and the example you are for us.  Happy Father's Day, we love you!

What a great tribute to dad and I LOVE the picture too! See, sometimes it pays off to wait when it's not so rushed as I was last night and didn't have time to go through all my pictures to find a classic picture and to write a nice tribute! I enjoyed remembering the clapper and all the wonderful life lessons that dad taught us.

I'll try again!
What a nice tribute. All of us fathers wonder if we ever did anything right. Moms do all the work and we usually just muck things up.
I've been blessed with 6 great kids and thier spouses. How many families do you see where there is contention and discord. The great thing about our family is everywhere you look there is a "lifeline." Someone you could call, who would willingly go beyond the usual limits to assist you.

The other great thing is our 20 grandkids. You kids were fantastic, but your kids are phenomenonal. Being a grandparent is great!
