Hear me Roar!
I came across this video when I was transferring old footage onto the computer. This is Layton last year (kindergarten) at his spring musical, "The Wizard of OZ". This is just too good not to share! About 5 days before the show, Layton's teacher had some concerns. She told me Layton was not singing in practice or making any efforts to learn a part. She was afraid that she would not be able to give him a bigger part in the play as was the tradition for Kindergartners. The day after I spoke to Layton about him being the only Kindergartner that would not be a "star" he came home telling me he was going to be the "Cowardly Lion". I was a little surprised that one day he wasn't going to have any speaking or solo part and then the next day he was the Lion! He only had a few days to learn his solo. His part was about 20 lines long but all he learned was the first two verses. The night of the performance his first two verses really became the first verse, just repeated twice! In order to give all Kindergartners a chance to have a larger role, the play is performed two different nights, with different children in the roles. Layton was the only child to be in the play both nights. The first show, the audience went crazy for him. He was a major hit! Afterwards his teacher said to us, "that is why he is in the show both nights - how are we supposed to duplicate that?!" I apologize for the shaky recording, if I would had known how funny he was going to be I would have had my camera on a tri-pod!
