Summer Vacation part 2: Sunriver

What's better than a week of vacation? Two weeks of vacation! So straight from Utah I drove the kids to Sunriver, Oregon to meet up with Scott. The Seal family came along for the fun as well! It just so happened to be Heather's birthday the day we left Utah. So she got 12 hours in a car with 6 kids for her birthday! What more could a mother want than quality time with her kids? Oh, and then there was her birthday dinner at Cafe Yumm!

Much of our time at Sunriver is spent at the pool. But no matter how much time we spent there, it was never enough for Kennedy, the sun goddess.

We rented a 4 bedroom house that we shared with the Seal family. It wasn't as nice as the house we rented last time we came here together. But that is okay because it only took us one day to destroy it. (Still waiting to hear if we get our deposit back or not!)
It did come with some pretty hot cooks and maids though!
Karsyn was happy to sit in the house all day and play games. There was one day that we let them do exactly that. I don't think the kids even got out of their pajamas that day.

For those that were a little more adventurous, there were bike rides. Morgan may not have been the fastest, but she sure was the cutest!
Scott may be able to take some time off from work but there is no such thing as vacation time for a Bishop. A couple times a day he would totally disappear. I couldn't find him anywhere. Then I found him out in the garage at his make-shift Bishop's office!
Will won the "Cleanest Teeth" award for the week. We have to give the credit to Heather however. The first night there she made her boys lie down on the floor so she could brush their teeth. She said the dentist told her to do this to get a better cleaning. As soon as she was done, Will plopped down on his back on the floor with his tooth brush in hand. He brought her his toothbrush every night and then would immediately lay on the floor!
Scott and Gavin's favorite part of the week was their tennis match. This is the racket that Scott used. Somehow he kept coming back and eventually won using this racket. They had so much fun laughing at the sound it would make every time it made contact with the ball. Scott got to keep the racket as the winning trophy. I put that winning trophy in our round metal trophy- case in the garage today!
The kids spent a lot of time filling up water balloons in the hot tub. The maintence guy spent a lot of time cleaning water balloons out of the jets.
And of course we had to keep with the tradition of coloring Mandalas. The kids just love this and it is a special treat because it is the only time of the year that we do them.

It is common to see deer all over Sunriver - but one that actually comes up on your porch was a little surprising! The kids cleaned out our fridge feeding this deer. They fed him several bananas, peel and all and most of our chicken and rice left-overs.

Scott and Gavin took Layton and Ryan golfing one day. Layton got to try out his new fancy clubs from Walmart! He has gotten too tall for the little set we bought the kids so he had to settle for a larger set that we found at Walmart in Bend.

Yes, you are seeing correctly...that is Heidi and Heather running!
I started running a week before we left for Utah. When I started I couldn't even run to the mailbox without stopping! I ran every day except Sunday in Utah and the same in Sunriver. I am now up to 3 miles! The problem is, that Heather didn't have the two weeks prior to work up to 3 miles! She ended up hurting her knee and limped for a few days but was a good sport about it!

We wanted an outing, different than the pool, in which everyone could particpate.
We decided to go canoeing and Kayaking down the Deshutes River. It runs through Sunriver and has a very slow current. This turned out to be one of everyone's favorite events. They took us upstream in a van for a few miles and dropped us off in the river. It took us about 3 hours to get down to our pick-up point. We really enjoyed the scenic views. We went along side a golf course and had great views of Mt. Bachelor. We even stopped so a few kids could swim while others trawled the river for lost golf balls.

Somehow I got stuck in a canoe with Layton and Will. The other canoes had two adults each. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time crashing into the pokey bushes at each bend of the river.
The older kids really liked the Kayaks until they realized that they had to do all their own paddling!

I still have to say Sunriver is one of my favorite family vacations! Every time we go we find something else to do and have new experiences.

Ok. Someone has some free time with two kids off to dance camp, one at gymnastics and two boys who love to do their own thing up in the playroom. I'm jealous of all the blogging you've done.

This post totally made me laugh though. Such fun memories! And my favorite part? The picture of that tennis racket. So funny to think of actually trying to play a game with that thing. Gavin was hoping the racket might make it into your favorites collection in the attic not the garage.

Can I just copy this whole thing on to my blog like I did last time with your Sunriver video?
