Winter Formal


Will decided to go to his first high school dance, Winter Formal, this year! Deciding to go was the easy part, but figuring out who to ask, what group to go with, where to eat, who was going to drive, what they were going to do after the dance...was a little stressful for him. Our advice to him was to go with someone that he was already comfortable and good friends with. The obvious choice was Lacey Clanton. In a perfect world he would have loved to take her twin sister, Lindsay, but while Will is interested in her, there has already been too much drama this year. He is a little tired of being led on only to then have his heart broke. So he has accepted the fact that now is not the time to pursue that relationship, but wait until she does some maturing in that area. Which is funny because she is a senior and Will is only a sophomore, but showing to be wise beyond his years when it comes to matters of the heart. 

 I was proud of him for coming up with this idea all on his own for asking Lacey to the dance. Lacey is crazy about pickles! Like seriously obsessed crazy for them! So with the help of his cousin Andrew, he made this poster and delivered it during choir with a big jar of her favorite pickles. The man photobombing their picture is Mr. Iverson, the choir director. Will loves him and is super sad he is retiring at the end of this year. He likes to call Will "Thrill".
We were excited Will decided to go to the dance, but sad we were going to be out of town in Hawaii for Scott's bday trip the day of the dance. Thankfully Lacey's dad got some pictures of all the kids for us before they headed off to the dance. We love that Will has such a great group of friends. The only problem is that most of them are Seniors. He is really going to miss them next year!




 I did have time to go shopping for a new suit with Will the night before I left town. He has been telling me for months now that he has outgrown his old one and this sounded like a good time to get him a new one. He was super excited about the light grey color and looked very handsome in it. Since this dance isn't one of the more formal dances, they guys all decided to leave their suit coats at home and sport bow ties and suspenders.

Heather sends us at least one vacation deal to look at each month. In September 2020 she showed us a sale on airfare to Hawaii over Scott's birthday. We had such a fun time there in January 2020 that it didn't take us long to commit and we booked airfare to Maui. We soon realized we couldn't find any affordable lodging in Maui that also offered free cancellation. Generous cancellation policies are definitely a must in these crazy COVID times. Heather found a good deal on lodging in Kauai so we changed our airfare from Maui to Kauai. Yes! Everything was finalized! Well that was until it was declared that all visitors to Hawaii would be required to show a negative COVID test, from one of their approved testing sites, to get off the plane in Hawaii. Blue and Gold

Our Blue and Gold Banquet theme this year was "Camping and Recycling".  I was in charge of the chocolate-dipped marshmallows for the centerpieces.  The gym looked great and everyone had a great time.  Of course, each cub scout brought in a theme-centered cake for the cake "contest" which supplied our dessert for the night.  Will decided to go with the camping theme and we made a giant Smore cake with the biggest home-made graham cracker known to man!  The boys spent some time at the recycling center at the back of the gym, making their unique creations from a bag of recycled items. Glad that is over!  Now just one more big cub scout pack meeting for the year....Pinewood Derby!!!!

Summer Vacation part 1: Utah

I drove to Utah so I could take all the kids out to Utah while Karsyn was at her gymnastics camp. I knew there would be no way that they would let me go without them! We stayed very busy while we were there. Here a few highlights from the week: The boys got to take swimming lessons from their Uncle Blake. Then, when they were done swimming you could find them on grandma and grandpa's indoor basketball court learning some new moves from Uncle Blake. If they needed some down time they would play video games with uncle Blake. As you can see, Uncle Blake is their favorite thing about Utah! Aunt Heather and Uncle Gavin had a hotel for a couple of nights up in Park City. When Kennedy asked, "What is Park City?" we knew she must go! So they took Kennedy and Cassidy up for an overnight stay. The got to visit Olympic Park where they did the Alpine slide and Alpine Coaster.
